Raised Beds

On the left a peg which makes a nice corner. You can buy them in bundles of 20, I think, at your friendly local timber yard. By far the cheapest source, much cheaper than garden centres or building supply merchants. |

The middle picture shows how it's done and
the peg is buried half in the soil to stabilise the corner.
Nice firm edge achieved with decking screws, will never rust and can be taken out if you want to make something else or move the frame elsewhere. |

This is a part of a raised bed in winter. The black membrane shows the planting holes. This one had lettuces interplanted with marigolds. The netting is draped over hoops, which consist of two lengths (2 ft) of copper pipe (dia 10mm) linked by a length of 19mm LDPE hose pipe. The copper pipes are hammered into the ground and the LDPE pipe is pushed over the ends of the tubes. It's quite rigid and supports netting, fleece or polythene. |
